Most birth marks are going to be completely normal and a visit to your dermatologists can be very reassuring. At Cinco Ranch Dermatology, we see patients from birth so its never too early to bring your little one in to get their birthmark checked. We usually will examine closely, determine a clinical diagnosis, photograph and measure. Annual checks are sometimes recommended but not always. If you see changes in your child's birthmark, the photograph will be worth a thousand words in determining if that change is clinically significant. In very rare cases, the birthmark can be the key to finding an underlying medical condition and further work-up may be required. Cosmetic treatment (surgical excision or laser) can also be discussed and we can help guide you on the best timing and approach for removal if desired.
